Custom Fireplace Surrounds
Getting a Custom Surround requires:
- Photos of the area it's to be installed in
- And ideally a cardboard mock-up of what you want the surround to look like
Keep in the Mind While Constructing The Cardboard-Mock up the Following:
- How Thick or Thin do you want the frame to be?
- Do you want some form of glass within the interior frame of the surround?
- What type of metal? Steel. Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Copper?
- And lastly what sort of finish do you want the metal to have?
Average cost for 48" wide simple standard surround:
- Aluminum $950
- Stainless Steel $1900
-
Pricing:
Aluminum up to 48" wide = $950.00
From 48" to 60" wide = 1350.00
Stainless Steel up to 48" wide = $1900.00, over 48" = $2700.00
90 degree surrounds up to 30” x 48” x 36” tall = 1350.00
Stainless steel 90 degree surrounds up to 30” x 48” x 36” tall = 2700.00, depending on the actual required detail.
-
Free Form Surrounds to your imagination!
-
Plus shipping and crating. Your surround pricing will depend on what is needed to be built.
-
We typically use Aluminum because stainless steel is susceptible to heat and will and can warp.

Jeff Walls Fireplace Upgrade
There were a lot of ideas surrounding what Jeff's fireplace would become. And when we arrived we found a lot of beer and interesting wood frame around the fireplace. As well as the typical dirty mess from burning logs.
After some discussion though it was decided that it wasn't the best direction to go. And the frame had to come off - especially if the custom surround was to be installed properly.
So once we cleared out the $350 worth of lumber, we went to getting the area prepared for the custom fireplace surround, a fresh coat of fireplace paint, a new indoor fireplace burner, fireglass and a few fireballs.
With the fireplace painted, a bed of playground sand in place and the new fireplace burner installed we are ready for the finishing touches.
Were still waiting for Jeff to send us his evening photos of the the fireplace completed. But here you can see how beautiful everything works together.

Kathy K. had placed her fireplace burner too far back, and as a result got a lot of ugly sooting on her wall.
So when started to work with her on her new Custom Surround we explained that her fireplace burner should be closer to the front so to avoid this again.
To ensure an accurate fit and design we guided Kathy on how to build an inexpensive cardboard mock-up.
The taped area represents the frosted glass and the cardboard represents what will be the brushed aluminum.
This gives both the client and us, a good general idea of what to build and what it will ultimately look like.

And here is the finished piece installed, freshly re-painted and burner installed in the right position :)
Corner Fireplaces With A Custom Surround
These pictures were sent to us from a customer in Long beach CA, who ordered a custom corner fireplace surround. This is how it originally looked, dirty with fake logs.
Here is here Surround being built.

Here is the fireplace cleaned out and prepared to receive its new look.

The custom surround is installed, making the fireplace look anew!
Add some flames and the job is complete.
Custom Stainless Steel Fireplace Surround
Here are some before pictures from another customer who ordered a custom corner fireplace Surround.

Here is the Stainless Steel Surround installed.
Another Custom Fireplace Surround.
The fireplace below has an aluminum surround and Starfire fireglass in Palm Springs.
Copper Fireplace Surround
This beautiful copper fireplace Surround was built for Stacey in Laguna Niguel, CA. The fireplace surround looked great against the faux painted walls. The fireglass used was Bronze Rust Copper.

She requested a distressed unfinished look to the copper Surround. You can see here the interior rough edges being welded and polished to achieve that distress finish.
And here are a few more pictures of the completed job in her beautiful room.
A Custom Brushed Aluminum Fireplace Surround
These pictures were sent to use from our customer in Palm Springs CA. It's a perfect example of the type of fireglass that really gets a face-lift from having a surround. The custom fireplace surround was designed specifically to our customers measurements and desired look. In this case our customer requested a brushed finished with clear glass edging.
And here is the surround installed. And in case your curious the fireglass installed was Starfire and the interior was painted with ivory white stove paint.
This custom fireplace surround has 4" sides and 3" top and bottom. Every fireplace is a little bit different as we recommend a cardboard template so you can get a preview of what it will look like before hand. It just looked so good, we posted all photos!
A Custom Fireplace Surround
These pictures were sent to us by Martha Heatherwick from Shreveport Louisiana. We first sold the Clear base glass to her contractor and then she contacted us to have a custom fireplace surround built. Here is what the fireplace looked like before we started.
Each surround is made to fit your requirements. Thats why we typically start with a cardboard template to replicate the size and shape of the fireplace surround.
This gives us a preview of what your surround should be - eliminating any surprises. The fireplace turned out great and you can see the surround added the finishing. This surround has 3" of aluminum and 2" of non frosted glass on the interior border.
A Floor to Ceiling Brushed Aluminum Custom Fireplace Surround
The next few pictures were sent to us by Marsha Dashefsky from Palm Springs, CA. Marsha wanted a custom floor-to-ceiling brushed aluminum fireplace surround.

Well, she got it!
The fireplace has 1/4" Clear and then we added 1/2" Clear and 1/2" Starfire. The aluminum can take on a soft or brilliant looks depending on the lighting. The next several pictures are of and with the blinds open.
A Custom 3-sided Fireplace Surround
We built the following 3 sided surround fireplace surround with a 2" frame.
Here are a few photos of the surround in the warehouse before we installed it.
Here are a few more pictures sent to us by our customer. The completed fireplace used Clear base fireglass.
A Surround On a Brick Fireplace
The following pictures of this old brick fireplace has an all fireglass install (3 inch installation) with a fireplace surround a triple burner, Ice Ice Ice Toppers and Starfire fireglass with a freshly painted painted black background.
After some dry steel brush cleaning and a little bit of stove paint, a triple burner has been added.
Now we instal the aluminum fireplace surround painted black. With only Starfire fireglass is installed for now.
It's kinda hard to see but we did install Ice Ice Ice on top of the Starfire fireglass. If you noticed we had to pile a small mound in the front to cover the massive pipe connection.
A Direct Vent Fireplace With A Surround
This is a typical direct vent burner with an automatic starter and thermo coupler.
After you have closed off the bottom of the fireplace and attached the adapter, your ready for fireglass.

Here we are testing the burn pattern of the double burners. Our burners have 2 rows of holes in each pipe to give you 4 rows of flames.
After pouring the fireglass make sure the automatic starter is just above the glass, so it can work properly. You can hide it with fireglass all around the element.
Here is the same fireplace installed with an aluminum surround that has been painted black.
Surround And Pan Ribbon Burner
Here are a few pictures of the fireplace before we got to work on it. Our customer wanted a custom ribbon burner which is a single strand burner pipe, some Starfire and custom falluminum fireplace surround.
Here is the 18" ribbon burner and pan being built. You'll notice what a simple and elegant wall of flame the ribbon burner creates. Keep in mind nothing can go over this type of burner, you'll notice how the fireglass goes around it. But don't let this fool you the ribbon burners pack a bunch!
Now we pour the Starfire around the burner.
Here is the stainless steel pan and ribbon burner are installed. The front legs of the pan are 4" round brushed legs with our standard legs in the back.
Now we light it and make it come to life.
Finally we installed the brushed aluminum surround to finish the fireplace off!
What we do is very simple, we listen to the customers needs and build from their imagination.
2-Sided Fireplace with Custom Surround
These pictures come to us from a customer in Pasadena, CA. It's a two sided fireplace with a remote control, quad "H" burner, and a custom 2" steel surround with a stand with a quick release bracket.
As you can see the surrounds have been hinged to a bracket system. The base connection and remote control are being installed. After the burner is connected we always test burn. Make sure there are no LEAKS!
For those of you who want remote controls, you can see there are a few items to hide. Once you get the glass in over the pipes and connections, it's not too bad. For this type of remote control there has to be a safety pilot light and thermo coupler with the valving system. The flames are low at this point because the meter has to be turned up by the gas company as there is not enough pressure for this type of burner.
The crushed lava goes in now and the burners are pulled to the surface before we pour the glass over the lava and glass. Do not pour the lava up to the edges but keep it back about 3" to 4" from the edges. If you look at the front lower right of the fireplace you can see the electronic eye of the remote control.

This surround had a front base plate with 2 pins standing up to receive the surround which had 2 holes in the same place. Then the 2 brackets lifted up to attach and hold the surrounds in place. The customer wanted this child proof, so we invented a way to do this and it turned out great. The fireglass used was a Black Reflective and it looks awesome!
If you will notice this surround was 2" away from the fireplace as this is the design the customer wanted. Pretty cool idea! The bracket system we created is child proof and easy to remove the surrounds as well.
Remote Control Fireplace With Surround
The fireplace below has a Starfire base and several fireglass Toppers for color. The toppers in this fireplace include Pink, Cobalt Blue, Fuchsia, Hyacinth, Amethyst Purple, Pale Cobalt Blue, Aquamarine, Lilac, Steel Blue and Purple Toppers.
Now we added a surround to finish it off. If you look on the lower right there is a remote control which is hidden by the surround.
Propane Fireplace With A Custom Surround
These fireplace pictures below come to us from John Addison in Lakeland, Florida. As you can see the fireplace was not much to look at until we added our touch. Its a propane fireplace that utilized one of our propane pan burners with a remote control.
We built a brushed aluminum surround with out the inner glass per the customer request. The fireglass installed was Gray base fireglass with Black and Copper Ruby Red on top.
Here is the completed job, we think it turned out wonderful! But you can be the Judge.
Custom Surround On Corner Fireplace
This corner fireplace was going through big transformation. As you can see it really needs a face lift.
Now with the glass-doors gone, we can clean up the fireplace and apply a fresh coat of stove paint. There was about 2" of crushed lava under the Starfire fireglass.
And lastly we added the fireplace surround. We also added up some more Starfire fireglass until it topped-off at the base of the metal of the surround. This is another reason we use fillers, to keep the costs down.
And even though its incomplete, we think it looks pretty good at night and lit up.
